 Starr Construction and Historic Preservation

  • Originally launched Star Construction in 2009
  • Established Starr Construction, LLC in 2014 with the purchase of the historic building in Downtown Danville.
  • Began working with historic preservation out of a dedication to stewardship and preservation of historic properties and respect for green building practices

Governmental Experience – Mayor of Danville, KY:

During his service the city:

    • Started a 28.6 million dollar water treatment plant
    • Has been involved in four significant sewer treatment projects
    • Improved access road to the Boyle County School complex
    • Developed a comprehensive City and County trail system
    • Worked with the State on the 2168 extension to relocate water lines and associated trail.
    • Worked to bring the Cheddars restaurant to our community
    • Supported the Great American Brass Band Festival and numerous other events
    • Levied the minimum property tax rate as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
    • Supported Economic Development with approximately $400,000 committed specifically for local job growth.
    • Maintained roads, worked on stormwater management, and trail development
    • Working for re-development of Weisiger Park
    • Maintained quality city services within a balanced budget

Management and Financial Experience in the Private Sector

    • Served as Plant Quality Control Manager for Garment Company’s World Headquarters in Bowling Green, KY
    • Held the position of Plant Cost Accountant
    • As Accounts Receivable Manager, he managed over $75 million in receivables

Military Experience – Retired Army Colonel

    • 30 years of commissioned service, 23 years of which were active duty
    • Served as a Military Adviser to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization under United States Ambassador to NATO Nicholas Burns
    • Served four years as an Inspector General identifying systemic readiness issues for the U.S. Army
    • Worked as an independent contractor in Iraq for 9 months in support of the Multi-national forces from Bagdad, Iraq Camp Liberty and 9 months in support of the United States Marines in Al Assad, Iraq. Supported all aspects of logistical and base life support to U.S. and Coalition forces

Bernie Hunstad knows Boyle County and Kentucky

    • 1973 graduate of EKU – He received his BBA in Accounting and was a Distinguished Military Graduate commissioned through the college’s ROTC Program
    • 1969 graduate of Danville High School
    • He considers himself blessed to have been raised in Boyle County and knows that it was this community that gave him the foundation and the tools he needed to move forward in life and continue to progress personally and professionally
